A New Vision for Somalia
The Somali National Development Plan (NDP: 2017-2019) has run its course. In the two years since its inception, the NDP8 ought to have offered a clear roadmap showing the steps the country was taking as it regrouped and set itself on a proper development path. However, as it gets to the conclusion of its implementation period, it has become apparent that the NDP8 didn’t live up-to its billing.
As Somalia puts together a five-year national development plan, the Somalia National Investment Strategy (NIS) is also being developed by the Ministry of Planning, Investment and Economic Development (MoPIED) to build on the gains of the NDP8 and complement the new NDP being drafted. The strategy that NIS is based on is to anchor its approach fully on Enterprise Driven Development (EDD) as a way of improving foreign and domestic investment.
