In a historic move, the National Bank of Ethiopia has issued a license to Kenya's telecom giant Safaricom to operate mobile money services in Ethiopia. This marks the first time a foreign firm has received such a permit in the country, which has a population of over 110 million people.

The UN Children's Fund, UNICEF, said Wednesday it has appealed for 759 million U.S. dollars to provide life-saving support to 16.6 million people, including 12.2 million children in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Somalia in 2023.
USAID and the World Food Programme (WFP) have suspended food deliveries to Tigray, a region in northern Ethiopia, following the discovery that relief aid had been stolen. On Wednesday, eighteen Somalis were successfully evacuated from Buluja, a town near Sudan's border with South Sudan, and arrived at Mogadishu's Aden Adde Airport. Abdirahman Nur Dinari, the acting permanent secretary of Somalia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, expressed his gratitude to the Somali embassies in Sudan, South Sudan, and Ethiopia for their efforts in evacuating citizens.
