The Inter-Governmental Authority for Development (Igad) has called upon its member countries to align diaspora transaction fees in an effort to increase remittance inflows. During a meeting with central bank governors from Igad member states in Nairobi, Igad executive secretary Workneh Gebeyehu highlighted that despite the region receiving substantial remittances from abroad, transaction rates remain significantly higher than the global average.

A US diplomatic convoy was fired upon in Sudan on Monday, as deadly fighting between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) continues. According to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, the attack was "reckless, irresponsible, and unsafe". This incident occurred as the conflict in Sudan has led to around 185 deaths and 1,800 injuries in the past three days, with hospitals and clinics also being shelled.
Isaias Afwerki, the president of Eritrea, visited Kenya to hold bilateral talks with Kenyan President William Ruto, and it was during this visit that he mentioned rejoining the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).
