Fly Dubai Launches Direct Flights from Dubai to Mogadishu

Flydubai has announced the launch of daily direct flights from Dubai to Mogadishu’s Aden Adde International Airport. The operation will begin on March 9, 2023. The carrier is the first to fly directly from Mogadishu to the United Arab Emirates and vice versa.

In their communique, the airline added that beginning June 1, 2023, the frequency of flights between the two countries will be doubled. Somalia marks the 11th location in Africa where flydubai operates after Addis Ababa, Alexandria, Asmara, Dar es Salaam, Djibouti, Entebbe, Hargeisa, Khartoum, Juba, and Zanzibar.

According to flydubai’s Chief Commercial Officer, Hamad Obaidalla, the airline is looking to expand its network in the rapidly growing East African region.“We continue to look for opportunities to grow our network in East Africa and open up underserved markets,” Obaidalla stated. “This region has seen significant economic growth and development in recent years, our direct flights will further stimulate the economy and help create free flows of travel and trade,” he added.

Sharing his insights on the new move, Sudhir Sreedharan, Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations (UAE, GCC, Africa, and the Indian Subcontinent) at flydubai stated that the airline is looking to offer convenient and reliable travel options for its clients.

“Flydubai will offer convenient and reliable travel services between both countries. This route will be operated by our fleet of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, offering customers the comfort of our Business Class cabin or a more customized experience in Economy Class. We are looking forward to doubling our frequency to Somalia from 01 June 2023 and further connecting the market to Dubai and beyond,” Sreedharan elaborated.

Furthermore, the air service posted information about the Dubai-Mogadishu flights on its official website. According to their site, daily flights will operate between Terminal 2 of Dubai International (DXB) and Mogadishu Aden Adde International Airport (MGQ).

What’s more, the carrier listed the flight prices, which ranged from AED 12,000 to USD 800.“Return Business Class fares from DXB to MGQ start from AED 12,000 and Economy Class Lite fares start from AED 3,000. Return Business Class fares from MGQ to DXB start from USD 3,500 and Economy Class Lite fares start from USD 800,” flydubai’s statement read in parts.

The airline’s website lists four flights, the inaugural flight, FZ 637, will depart from Dubai at 12:00 and arrive in Mogadishu at 15:30 on March 9, 2023. The last on the list is flight FZ 610 from Mogadishu to Dubai scheduled for June 1, 2023.
